Mission Possible

Mission Possible

Jan 12

I’ve been a person who, for many years, lives by personal ‘mission statements’. I’ve found that way too much time is wasted when we don’t allow our steps to be ordered – I certainly don’t want to stumble through life! And, IF you don’t tell time where to go, you’ll be asking it where it went! You know, it’s the end of the day, you’re laying in bed looking back over the day, and you sigh… “I didn’t do jack today”.

I think it’s rather easy to have ‘vision’ – we see big pictures and tons of potential. But, a mission is a vision that woke up, remembered it & got busy doing it!

So, as a way of being transparent, here’s a few I WILL statements – in no particular order – that are part of my 2010 mission:

I WILL:

  1. Study the Word of God & Pray at least an hour (of each) daily.
  2. Tell my wife that I love her MORE! Because, I do… LOTS!
  3. Work-out at least 5 times each week. Elliptical, weights & wrestling my boys!
  4. Be in bed by 12:30am – what?! Yep, that’s my mission!
  5. Make sure the kitchen & living room looks clean before I crash… no one wants to wake-up to a mess!
  6. Be involved in the interests and activities of my three daughters. They’re all three so different and so wonderful!
  7. Journal everyday – even scribble some stuff during the 3am prayer time.
  8. Take day-offs (from everything including laptop) and do vacation! I’ve got a sweet one planned for June – can’t wait!!
  9. Make the bed each morning. We just got new pillow-top comforter, sheets & pillows – gotta show some respect! And, yeah, I’m last one out – so, it’s my job!
  10. Have a real conversation w/ someone about Jesus every day. Deliberate pursuit.
  11. Drink H2O more & more & more.
  12. Not eat junk. Period. (fried, fat, sugar-filled, etc) – not a diet, a lifestyle.
  13. Invest more in leadership – my team, students and future/potential leaders.
  14. Blog more often but w/ shorter posts – seriously… well… I WILL (talking to self now)!
  15. Listen better. To: God, Netta, Kids, Friends, Church, Community… YOU.
  16. Obey God – quicker & completely.

There’s a bunch of other things on my list but this gives you a look into various parts of my MISSION. Got some things on your ‘mission’ that you want to share? Any other thoughts? I’m LISTENING (see #15, again).

I challenge you to develop your mission – but, remember, write in pencil… “We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.” Proverbs 16:9 msg.

… on a mission from God, Chilly

This reminds me of the time you spent with Gancer, Adam, and I about our own personal mission statements for X-Factor. A wonderful way of being deliberate in what I need to do. It allows me to be focused much better with my time.

And it’s also cool how you are being open to everyone as to what you will do this year.

  2. That’s really good, Pastor Chilly. Praying for your pursuit of these missions.

And, in the next 24 hours I’m going to take my goals for 2010 and post them in a similar manner. I liked this.

Thanks for leading in lifestyle. Love you.

  3. Such a good reminder… I haven’t updated my mission statement for a while.
    Thanks for the encouragement!

I like your newly defined mission statement. This is going to be a great year if you can fulfill these goals. Blessings and love. POPS

Thank you for being transparent and leading by example! I was just feeling a nudge to do something like this myself.

Have I told you how common it is that God speaks something into my life and then highlights the statement by having you repeat it? Because it happens A LOT! Thanks again for being faithful!

Thanks for being so open about the standards you’re setting for this year. It’s nice to have a leader that I can look to and see confidence, the fruit of his integrity.
    Love you,
    Zack
