…things are LOOKING UP!

Dec 30

As most of you know by now, we are FAST approaching the launch of our 2nd Real Church campus. That’s right, on January 10, 2010, we will be starting our next adventure in Detroit (midtown). Well, until today we did not have a venue to hold services – did you catch that? I said, “until today”…  because we now have a building! C’mon, SHOUT!!

We will be meeting in the rooftop solarium of the Park Shelton Building – this is a phenomenal location right on Woodward Avenue (the main street of Detroit) and right in the middle of the cultural center of our city. We are surrounded by the Detroit Institute of Art, Historical Museum, Main Library, College of Creative Studies and Wayne State. Our meeting space is one the rooftop of one of the tallest & most beautiful buildings in midtown and features a large outside terrace with breath-taking views of Detroit!

Two years ago, this week, I stood on this very rooftop on a rainy December afternoon and prayed for our city. During this time, God spoke into my heart: “your next church is within your view right now” – I peered out over the city wondering ‘where’… Yes, of course, I was willing and excited but I was also overwhelmed – I could see SO much – I knew it was midtown but where?! How ironic that today I discover  the VERY place that God spoke to me about planting our next church would be the VERY place I was standing! Yes, you heard me right, but I’ll repeat it – it was on this very same rooftop 2 years ago that God spoke to me. At the time, I peered in all directions thinking “where?” … I was looking too far! Goose-bumps anyone?

Well, I won’t keep you in suspense any longer… allow me to show you a few pictures:

This is the view from the front of the DIA (Detroit Institute of Art) – yes, that’s the “Thinker” or as I like to think, the “Prayer”, in the foreground. Our church will meet on the top of the building in the background – right underneath the flag on the center tower.

This a view of the main meeting space. It has windows on three sides and a walk out onto a large terrace. Not pictured is nice bathroom, kitchen and small meeting room (for kids).  It’s all so beautiful.

We are so excited to finally have a ‘place’ to go with our passion. 2010 here we come!

God is so good, and you are right we should start our walk with God just where we stand and not look outward for his answers to our prayers. Let Christ sit by our side and listen for him to speak.
