The last 2 days I’ve been feelin’ pretty horrible – I hate it!  How does a person catch a cold during the hottest week of the summer? Ugh!  The sickness has really thrown off my preparation for this weekend at Real Church – which I’m really excited about.  God has some GREAT things in store for us here in the D!

It’s really easy when we feel bad to focus on ourselves and make way too much out of it.  We only pray for and think about our stuff. That’s ridiculous (and sinful).  I have friends & family that are facing WAY more than I am. They need my prayers … and, you know what?  I need to pray for others – ESPECIALLY when I feel bad, sick and selfish.

I’m reminded of the story of Job.  He was sick and could not find comfort in talking about it, complaining about or coming up with spiritual answers & solutions…  How did healing come?  Check it out for yourself:

After Job had interceded for his friends, God restored his fortune—and then doubled it! All his brothers and sisters and friends came to his house and celebrated. They told him how sorry they were, and consoled him for all the trouble God had brought him. Each of them brought generous housewarming gifts. Job 42:10-11

Yeah, he did the opposite of what he felt like doing… He prayed for his friends… focused on others – turn his concern outward – and did something proactive.  PRAYER WORKS! Job ministered his way out of the funk that he was in. I know, I know, God may not always choose to restore us – or double our blessing – when we pray for others (at least not in an earthly way) but we will feel better simply knowing that we are being like Christ who is always praying for others!

… on the mend, Chilly

    Wow…this is so true!

Its unbelieveable how different our situations become when we stop focusing on the issue and ourselves and choose to love/serve others!! I think the more I choose to focus on others and pray for them when I’m going through somethin, my “somethin” doesn’t stand so tall anymore. And what an incredible opportunity for God to change me in my situation!

Thanks…I need to put this into practice right NOW!

  4. that’s so good. In prayer for you and for this weekend. Love you Captain.
