Never know what a Sleigh Ride might bring…
Dec 09
Today, is one of those gloomy days where I just want to chill and stare off into space… wishing the rain would turn to snow. Relaxin’ and reading, praying and drifting… I notice a song playing in the background of the little cafe I’m sitting in… the song, “Sleigh Ride” is playing… Ahhhh, my eyes close and I begin to day dream about a sleigh ride I once experienced…
It was twenty years ago on a snowy night at the beginning of December, my girlfriend and I went on a sleigh ride… now, understand, it wasn’t your typical romantic ride through the park but rather a horse drawn sleigh full of hay and about 50 inner-city teens. We had a blast looking at the 10,000 twinkle lights in the trees and throwing each other off bails of hay into huge piles of snow several feet below us. Many of the teens had never been outside the city or ever seen live ‘farm animals’ before… we laughed, played, ate snow (sometimes by force) and loved on each other a bunch. It was such a great night. After we got back to the church, my girlfriend and I changed clothes and went downtown Minneapolis. It felt like we were the only people in the world. We playfully pushed each other down the deserted walking street (it was early in the morning around 1am or so) – it was beautifully decorated with lights, wreaths, music and snow. Without her noticing, I pulled out of my pocket a sparkling diamond ring (I was so nervous having it in my pocket), I turned, held out the ring and said, “so, do you wanna be my wife, or what?” – she went crazy and took off screaming & running! Then it turned to leaping, dancing, jumping on benches, spinning about… and FINALLY she returned to me (and the RING) and exclaimed, YES, YES, YES!
Then some kissing took place (I’ll spare you the details… blush…)!! From there we went out for some warm, delicious soup, yummy pie and some coffee (for me), hot cocoa for her! An amazing, adventurous, incredible & wonderful life began 20 years ago with a sleigh ride & crazy ministry … and today I’m riding that sleigh again in my heart.
I Love you NETTA!
So, to celebrate that perfect night in my life, I thought I would post a fun, little video. Have a day dream on me…
